Longwood

Location: South Bronx. Longwood's is bordered by Prospect Avenue to the west, East 169th and East 167th street to the north, and Bruckner Expressway to the south and east.

Character: Longwood is a predominantly low-income neighborhood. A century ago it was considered a Jewish neighborhood, but this ethnic makeup has changed dramatically over the past 100 years, in particular after the 1950s (through the process known as "white flight"); today an overwhelming majority of Longwood residents are Latino (many are of Puerto Rican descent).
