Queensboro Dance Festival unveils Summer 2024 lineup and venues

The Summer 2024 Queensboro Dance Festival, slated to run from June 8 through Sept. 15, will include more than 30 scheduled performances at various venues throughout the borough.

Dance performances, themed parties, and classes are among the events that will be held in various outdoor spaces. Attendance for each of them is free.

A total of 24 Queens-based dance companies will participate in this year’s Queensboro Dance Festival. These dance companies represent diverse cultures and styles, reflecting the residents and immigrant groups now calling Queens home. Some of the featured dance styles for this year’s festival include Greek Zeibekiko, Argentine folk, Indigenous Philippines, modern, Chinese, salsa, tap, Mexican, Odissi, Hula, Flamenco, Kathak, Ecuadorian, Jazz, Afro-Caribbean, Bolivian Caporales, ballet, hip-hop and street styles.

Flushing man indicted in fatal collision that killed 10-year-old boy in East Elmhurst last month: DA

A Flushing man was indicted by a Queens grand jury in a fatal collision that killed an 8-year-old boy in East Elmhurst last month.

Jose Barcia, 52, is accused of speeding through a crosswalk while making a left turn, killing Bayron Palomino Arroyo and injuring his 10-year-old brother Bradley on Mar. 13. The grand jury indictment was filed on Apr. 18, and Barcia will be arraigned on May 2, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

FDNY prevents disaster in East Elmhurst by seizing 68 illegally stored propane tanks

For the second time in four months, FDNY fire inspectors averted a potential catastrophe in East Elmhurst after finding stockpiles of illegally stored propane tanks in the residential neighborhood.

Fire inspectors from the Special Investigation Unit received a complaint of illegal occupancy at a home just south of LaGuardia Airport at 23-57 89th St. They discovered 68 propane cylinders, which they seized along with five food trucks and a box truck parked on the property last week. The inspectors also found illegal single-room-occupancy in the home’s cellar.

Crunching the Queens crime numbers: grand larcenies down across borough, rapes halved in the north, robberies decrease in the south

The number of grand larcenies across Queens was down during the 28-day period from March 18 to April 14, compared to the same period of time last year, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD Monday. At the same time, rapes and robberies decreased significantly in northern and southern Queens, respectively.
