Neighborhood Profile

This small, centrally-located, mixed office-and-residential, area contains many historic loft buildings and bears the name of the most iconic of them all (The Flatiron Building). The area gets busy during office hours – especially along the major traffic arteries, such as 23rd Street and Fifth Avenue. The side streets, however, are mostly quiet. In addition to Madison Square Park, the Eataly gourmet marketplace (5th Avenue / West 23rd St) functions as the neighborhood's informal "hub."

Buildings in the Neighborhood

There are multiple loft buildings (mostly conversions) in the Flatiron Building's immediate vicinity, while on the area's eastern and western edges, the housing stock is more traditional. Side streets contain older, brownstone low-rises while recent construction (the 1990s and later) brought some high-rises.
