Houston Street. Sarah D Roosevelt Park

Lower East Side. Avalon Chrystie Palace. The corner of Houston Street and Chrystie Street. Sarah D Roosevelt Park (roughly 3 small blocks in size) is named after the mother of the US president. Before 1929, this was the site of (yet more of the) Lower East Side slums.

Speaking of slums and the buildings that replace them, note the construction site clearly visible in this photo. In only 18 short months, this patch of land will turn in to an upscale residential building dubbed "Avalon Chrystie Palace".
