I'm coming from out of state and will be a guarantor for my son/daughter going to UES college off 68th street and Lexingtion. Looking for a real 2bedroom apartment that is about 2K or less with landlord incentives. SOuth of 83rd and as close to Lexington or 3rd as possible. 70s and 60s would be best. Subway access is important for safety. Excellent credit/financials. Will be making one trip to visit apartments next week thru next weekend and trying to find the best way to do this without getting scammed. The market seems to be getting softer, however, I don't see anything in this price range on NYbits but lots on craigslist and no fee RE sites. Am I missing something? Ready to deal, need safe environment and good share floorplan. If anyone has any recommendations of agents/landlords or knows of anything in this area and best way to approach it that would be great Out of state looking for help

Currently live on 69th between 2nd and 3rd in a fulltime doorman building...its a converted 2br with the wall up, no fee, laundry in building...one bedroom holds king, sofa and has a walk-in closet, the other (converted) holds a queen bed, dresser and side table and has a seperate kitchen...Im not sure you will find something for less than 2K....This one is $3,200/month, and we are looking for someone to take our apt (roomate is moving) on July 1 or 15th...however we would be willing to throw in 1/2 month rent to help facilitate.

Thanks for the offer sounds beautiful, however, would be steep for the remainder of the year. I have seen 2K apts on line, however, will need to see how real they are. Will keep looking. Good luck to you as well.

I know you said you found a ton of Craigslist that you were unsure of but did you see - http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/abo/1192025017.html ? I was looking at this one for myself, but it is to far east. Don't know where your daughter goes to school but if it is Rockefeller, then this is perfect. Good luck.

You could check out some Upper East Side Manhattan Real Estate listings here http://www.glenwoodnyc.com/properties/upper_east_side/ You'll find several rental apartments there.

Gleenwood apartments are nice, but tend to be more expensive than what you are looking for. If you are looking for a real two bedroom apartment, or a Conv't two bedroom, you might have to go outside of your range, that means increasing your rent and/or location. You are targeting the "ideal" location for apartments in the Upper East Side. You will yield better results in the low 90's or closer to 1st Avenue. Just some food for thought.

I'm curious if you were able to find an apartment yet? My daughter is going to be attending the same school in the fall ( I assume you meant Hunter) and we are out of state also- a little disappointed so far in our search for housing. We dont know anyone in the city to share with so she has been looking at studios. Not too encouraging. hoping maybe you can give me some ideas- but we are looking under 1300 since we dont have anyone to share with (unless yours is still looking for a roomie!)

We were able to find an apartment on 85th and 2nd for 2,000. It is a walkup 2bedroom. Only 2 1/2 blocks to subway and two stops to Hunter. Our goal was met in price and location. Great neighborhood. Small apt but very good landlord and area. My daughter has a roomate, however, that maybe be changing later in the year. Not sure yet and then we will need to find a new roomate. If you want to communicate off line let me know since this is a public blog. Our real estate person was also good found via craigs list... what a surprise!!
