NY Post: Mariah Carey rents at 15 Broad St

NY Post speculates that Mariah Carey is renting "a furnished two-bedroom, two-bath condo on a high floor" at 15 Broad Street for "approximately $8,000 per month". That's in addition to owning another downtown apartment.

Affordable Brooklyn in Sunset Park

NY Sun hails Brooklyn's Sunset Park as a neighborhood where one can still find "a cheap apartment in a safe neighborhood with a reasonable commute to [your] job in Manhattan". But beware, "there has been a surge of development and rental conversions in the neighborhood and the Department of City Planning is conducting a rezoning study of the area". Currently, apartments sell for around $500 a square foot - a much lower figure that in other Brooklyn neighborhoods.

Prada's Miu Miu To Open On East 57th Street

Mott Haven To Get Privately Financed Condos

The first privately-financed condo project is coming to Mott Haven, writes NY Times. The 11-unit project is called Bronx Bricks. It's going to be a conversion of a five-story, red-brick former print shop at 305 East 140th Street (between Third and Alexander Avenues). Prices start at $395,000 and two units are already in contract.

Residential Market Surges In Harlem

NY Sun reports something we already know: the residential real estate market in Harlem is hot. Some stats to back that up: since 1990, about 4,550 units of free-market condominiums have been developed in Harlem, of which almost all (4,300) have been built since 2000. Furthermore, approximately 1,600 units have been proposed for construction in 2007. According to one real estate executive, of the three Harlems "East Harlem is still grossly underdeveloped by most standards". Perhaps not for very long?

Borough President Rejects Hotel/Condo Project

Downtown Express reports that Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer rejected Time Equities' massive hotel and condo project proposal for 50 West St - officially, due to lack of any "substantial investment in affordable housing". The rejection is only advisory, but it is expected to have an impact on the pending City Council approval which would be necessary for the project to proceed.

Moondance Diner Moving To.. Wyoming

SoHo's landmark Moondance Diner, which has been featured in a whole bunch of films and TV shows (think "Friends", "Sex and the City" and more recently, "Spiderman") is going to be hauled all the way to LaBarge, Wyoming. The move is expected to take place within 10 days. The reason? You guessed it: more luxury condos are coming to this section of SoHo.
