LOCATION

In the case of Midtown East, the location is expressed in the name and the name is derived from the location. For those who are still confused, Midtown East is located on the East Side of Manhattan. Its southern border is commonly believed to be 42nd street, northern - 59th street, western - Park Avenue (or Lexington Avenue, or 5th avenue, depending on who you ask). To the north of Midtown East you'll find the Upper East Side and to the south - Murray Hill.

CHARACTER AND FEEL

Midtown East is dominated by the United Nations and the surrounding quasi-diplomatic institutions. Actually, that's only its functional dominant, because architecturally it's dominated by one of Donald Trump's latest creations, [The Trump World Tower]. This architectural peculiarity was ardently opposed by the area's rich and famous (including some really rich people), but was built anyway (and very quickly).

POPULATION AND DEMOGRAPHICS

Let's see.. UN workers, diplomats, writers, the very-very-very rich whose bedroom views have been ruined by the Trump World Tower and, of course, the residents of the Trump World Tower.

There are some tourists on the streets (the area does have quite a few hotels, especially along Lexington Avenue) and other folks (students, housewives and other mere mortals), but these "others" are probably in the minority here. The whole neighborhood feels very "New York", if you know what we mean (the flags in front of the U.N. building notwithstanding).

SAFETY

Demographics-wise, Midtown East is fairly safe. People living here here don't normally mug or assault anybody. At least, not without direct provocation.

However, since the neighborhood houses foreign diplomatic corps, it pays to be aware of the current geopolitical situation. Also, you may see extra police presence during the time of various diplomatic functions. You can decide for yourself whether it's a good thing or not.
